‘’that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive’’ Eph 4:14
Maturing unto sonship is the cumulative effect of simple steps of obedience to the word of God, as we read the scripture daily and commit our heart to doing as the word of God admonishes; we will gradually find ourselves being transformed into the likeness of the Son of God. Obedience to the word of God is a vital ingredient in “maturing to the fullness of the status of Christ”.
To mature means to have grown out of childish behaviour. It is defined as the quality/character/attitude of thinking and behaving in a sensible adult manner. A child’s growth is enhanced or hindered by the quality and quantity of nutrition that is made available for the body, while maturity is the process of development of the mind to be able to differentiate between good or bad, right or wrong, and to always do what is good and right no matter the cost. The nutritional requirement for the growth of a born again child of God is contained in the word of God, 1 pet 2:2
The process of maturing unto sonship involves :
1) Spending quality time with the word of God 1 Pet 2:2
2) Learning under a God-fearing mentor, 2 Tim 2:22
3) Total obedience to God's instructions,
When a Child of God grows into Sonship, certain characteristics are evident for all to see.
1) Putting away childish behaviour, 1Corn 13:11
2) Making of choices that glorify God, Gen 39:9
3) Denying the flesh, Luke 9:23
4) Fellowshipping with the Lord and the brethren in bible study and prayers, 1John 1:3
5) Constantly looking unto Jesus and desiring to know more of Him, Heb 12:2, Psalms 42:1
6) Boldly standing for the Lord, Daniel 3:16-18
7) Conscious abstinence from all appearance of evil and sin, 1 Thess 5:22
Maturing onto Sonship is expected to bring us ''unto the measure of the status of the fulness of Christ’’(Eph4:13) which will be when we see Him face to face, for the scripture says ‘’it has not yet appeared WHAT we shall be... when he appear, we shall be like’’ 1 John 3:2 . This calls for self-examination; since you have been born-again are you maturing in your walk with the Lord, or you still remain a baby that is tossed here and there by winds of doctrine, who cannot handle matters of the kingdom.
TACEF has come of age and we must heed the wake-up call to grow unto maturity; our choices must be that which pleases the Father. We refuse to be derailed by the praise or acceptance of men, we will guide this divine mandate to raise an army with a vision of revival. Answering this higher call demands discipline and prompt action to deal with all ungodliness without fear or favour. Like Moses we choose to enter into the wilderness of the great task that the Lord has called us unto, than to enjoy identification and the praise of men as the heir to "Pharaoh's" throne. It is time to rise, contend and defend the faith that was delivered to the saints of which we are now custodians in The African Church.
Welcome to 2015; welcome to maturing unto Sonship.
2013 JANUARY LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP: ABIDING IN GODLY PATTERNS
As we transit into the next phase of our journey with God, the Lord is calling our hearts to the foundational truths that shaped our evolution as a fellowship. The Lord was emphatic in 2 Pet 1 vs 19 and Heb 2 vs 1-4 on the need to preserve, treasure and sustain these patterns as sure memorials before Him.
We must always remind ourselves that the specific instruction, as received from the beginning of this fellowship, are timeless, pure, sure, eternal and are never subject to the changing times or shifting standards of our varying seasons. They are rooted in God’s nature and His unchanging personality.
(James 1 vs 17 ISV –“in whom there is no inconsistency or shifting shadow”)
Our role therefore, as partners on the journey with God is to consistently keep to God’s set standard or Master plan as true and worthy co-labourers with Him. Our work is only valid to the degree to which it aligns with God’s fullest details and intent. It is not what we think or imagine but what He alone has mandated and instructed.
We will pray for you and your family. Just ask!
